About this coinHistory

Philadelphia resumed Mercury dime production in 1923 with 50,130,000 coins after the 1921 low and the complete 1922 production gap. No dimes were struck at any mint in 1922 because the Mint concentrated on silver dollars under the terms of the Pittman Act, which required the Treasury to purchase and coin domestic silver. The 1923 represents the return to normal dime production after two years of disruption.

The 1923 is a common date available in all grades through gem Mint State. Full Bands examples are readily obtainable. The coin carries no particular variety significance and serves as a standard Philadelphia entry in the series.
