Denver's 2020 Native American Dollar honors Elizabeth Peratrovich, the Tlingit civil rights leader and Grand President of the Alaska Native Sisterhood whose testimony before the Alaska Territorial Senate on February 5, 1945 secured passage of the Alaska Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945. That law was the first anti-discrimination statute on the books in the United States, predating the federal Civil Rights Act by nearly two decades. The reverse, designed by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, places Peratrovich at center with a raven (a Tlingit clan crest) at her shoulder and a banner inscribed ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAW 1945 above. Denver's 1,400,000 figure ties the lowest annual NIFC mintage struck for the program through 2020, matching the 2019-D American Indians in Space production and reflecting a pandemic-era contraction of collector-channel orders that ran across the 2020 Mint catalog.
