Philadelphia's 2026 Polly Cooper dollar lands in the year of the United States Semiquincentennial and is the closing reverse of the Native American $1 program's annual rotation, which has run since 2009 under the Native American $1 Coin Act of 2007. The reverse, designed by Artistic Infusion Program artist Beth Zaiken and sculpted by Medallic Artist Craig Campbell, shows Polly Cooper, an Oneida woman of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, presenting a basket of white corn to General George Washington, who holds his hat in respect. The scene anchors a documented Revolutionary-War episode: in the winter of 1777-1778 Cooper traveled with Chief Skenandoah and Han Yerry from Oneida country in central New York to the Continental Army camp at Valley Forge with a delivery of corn, then remained at the encampment to teach soldiers the preparation method, since Iroquois white corn requires extended boiling and lye treatment unknown to Continental cooks. The obverse retains Glenna Goodacre's Sacagawea portrait and adds a Liberty Bell privy mark below IN GOD WE TRUST, with the numeral 250 arranged vertically on the bell, the same 250th-anniversary device appearing across the Mint's 2026 product line.
What collectors look for on the Philadelphia issue concentrates on the privy-mark strike and on the broad open field of the obverse, since every example leaves the Mint inside packaging. The 2026-P is a NIFC issue, Not Intended For Circulation, struck for roll, bag, and set programs rather than the cash drawer, so certified populations will gather in MS66 and MS67 once submissions arrive. Bag marks fall hardest in the field around Sacagawea's portrait, and the incuse 250 inside the bell takes contact easily during shipping. No die varieties have been published.
Inside the collecting landscape today, the 2026-P sits as the closing date of the rotating-reverse program and as a 250th-anniversary coin, two distinct collecting angles the rest of the Native American run does not offer. Mintage has not yet been finalized; the figure will be reported by the Mint after the production cycle closes, and rolls are trading at modest premiums over face. Registry-set builders working the program need the date, and Semiquincentennial-themed collectors are pulling examples for the privy-mark sub-set. For the program's reverse-rotation framework and the wider series context, see the Sacagawea Dollar series history.
