About this coinHistory

The 1922-D Lincoln cent is the only regular-issue cent for 1922, as no cents were struck at Philadelphia or San Francisco that year. The entire 1922 cent output came from Denver, with a mintage of approximately 7.2 million coins. The modest figure reflects the reduced demand for coinage during the early 1920s. The 1922-D is available in circulated grades but slightly scarcer than typical Denver issues from the era.

Every 1922 cent should bear a D mintmark. The rare exceptions (the "No D" or "Plain" variety) are coins where the mintmark failed to transfer due to die problems. A standard 1922-D with a clear, well-struck D mintmark is a common coin. The absence of that D transforms it into one of the most valuable Lincoln cent varieties.
