The 2019-W Uncirculated Lincoln Shield cent is a special collector issue struck at the West Point Mint with a limited mintage of approximately 200,000 pieces. The uncirculated finish uses burnished blanks and specially prepared dies to create a soft, uniform luster across the coin's surface. The result is a coin that looks distinctly different from both a standard circulation strike and a proof, with a gentle sheen that highlights the design's details without the extreme contrast of mirror and frost.
The 2019-W Uncirculated cent was sold through premium U.S. Mint products, not released into circulation. The 200,000-piece mintage makes it one of the scarcest modern Lincoln cents, comparable to the 2017-S Enhanced Uncirculated and the 2018-S and 2019-W Reverse Proofs. Collectors pursuing a complete set of 2019-W cents needed this Uncirculated version, the Reverse Proof, and the Proof, in addition to the circulation-quality "W" cents found in bank rolls. The combination of the West Point mintmark and the limited production has made the 2019-W Uncirculated cent a sought-after modern rarity in the Shield series.
