The 2024-D Lincoln Shield cent was produced at the Denver Mint with a mintage of approximately 3.27 billion pieces. Denver's production slightly exceeded Philadelphia's, continuing the typical pattern. The Denver Mint has been a consistent partner to Philadelphia in cent production since 1911, and the two facilities together account for virtually all circulation-quality U.S. coinage.
The 2024-D cent is the latest in a long line of Denver-minted Lincoln cents that stretches back over a century. Collectors who track mintages note that the three-billion range has become the standard annual output for each facility in the 2020s, down from the four-to-five billion peaks of the mid-2010s. The gradual decline mirrors the slow contraction of cash-based commerce, though the cent remains deeply embedded in American monetary culture.
