Barber Quarter proof orders ran in the 700-to-1,200 band across the 1900-1907 cluster, and the 912-piece order book reflects steady collector demand under the late McKinley administration. The 1900 sits inside the Cameo-finish window that ran through 1901 before the Mint shifted to all-brilliant proofs in 1902. Standard specs apply: 6.25 grams, 24.3 millimeters, 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper, reeded edge.

Authentication of a 1900 proof rests on four markers visible under a 10x loupe. The rims show a squared profile rather than the rounded rims of a circulation strike. The denticles run fully formed around the entire periphery with no weak segments. The fields carry the watery mirror depth that only polished dies produce, visible in the open space beside Liberty's portrait. Liberty's hair under the cap, the laurel leaves, and the eagle's individual feathers come up razor-crisp, well beyond what a prooflike business strike can hold. Light die-polish lines crossing the fields are normal for the type.
