About this coinHistory

Denver's 2013 White Mountain came in at 131,600,000 pieces, almost double the Philadelphia figure and the highest D-mint ATB mintage produced to that point in the series. The number captures the scale of the 2013 Federal Reserve quarter surge, which more than quintupled the 2012 D-mint output on this design. Phebe Hemphill's reverse, showing Mount Chocorua reflected in Chocorua Lake, was the first 2013 design to be struck at Denver and arrived in commerce alongside the corresponding Philadelphia issue in the spring rollout. White Mountain National Forest, established in 1918, covers roughly 800,000 acres across New Hampshire and a sliver of western Maine.

D-mint examples from the 2013 run tend to read with cleaner cartwheel luster than the Philadelphia counterparts, partly a function of die-rotation discipline at Denver during the long production stretch. The mountain reflection in the lake is the critical strike zone: well-struck D-mint coins show fine ripple texture beneath the reflected ridge line and clean separation between the peak and the upper sky. The clad composition (75% copper-nickel over a pure copper core, 5.67 grams) is the standard since 1965, so authentication is a non-issue and the certified market runs through PCGS and NGC slabs (the two major third-party grading services). Roll hunters working original D-mint rolls continue to recover MS65 examples easily.

The 2013-D White Mountain carries a Regular classification and trades as one of the most available D-mint dates in the entire series, reflecting the 131.6 million mintage. Population reports at MS67 and MS68 are comfortable, and pricing stays modest through the upper Mint State range. Real premium spend on this issue makes sense only at MS68+ in deep-mirror examples with full strike across the mountain reflection. Set builders pursuing a complete circulation run find this date among the easiest 2013 D-mint acquisitions in every grade band. For the broader story of the ATB program and the series' design arc, see the Washington ATB series history.
