Joel Iskowitz's reverse depicts Theodore Roosevelt on horseback against the North Dakota badlands, the country where he ranched at the Maltese Cross and Elkhorn sites in the mid-1880s before returning east and where Theodore Roosevelt National Park preserves the eroded buttes and bottomland his cattle range covered. The figure occupies the foreground at three-quarter profile, with the layered badland formations rising behind. The issue is the third of five 2016 releases and the only ATB design depicting a U.S. president other than Washington himself on the obverse.

Proof finish on the issue is the standard San Francisco style: mirrored fields struck from polished planchets against dies frosted in chemical baths before each press run.
