About this coinHistory

San Francisco struck 5,850,000 Mercury dimes in 1925, the lowest S-mint production of the mid-1920s. The relatively low mintage creates a modest scarcity premium in higher circulated grades and in Mint State. The 1925-S is one of several San Francisco dates from this decade where the combination of lower production and heavy western circulation leaves fewer survivors in Very Fine and better than collectors might expect from a nearly six-million-coin mintage.

Strike quality is the persistent San Francisco issue. Full Bands examples are scarce for the 1925-S, and well-struck gems with clean surfaces command meaningful premiums over typical Mint State coins. The date sits just above the semi-key threshold in collector demand.
