Every example was struck at Denver from specially-prepared dies on regular cupronickel-clad planchets, with the 2.268-gram, 17.91-millimeter standard unchanged from the Denver circulation strike but the dies treated to produce the uniform satin or matte surface that defines the program. The piece is Not Intended For Circulation and was distributed exclusively in the 2008 Annual Uncirculated Mint Set alongside its 2008-P Satin Finish counterpart.

Authentication on the 2008-D Satin Finish rests on the surface diagnostic and on the original packaging.
