About this coinHistory

The 1976-S Silver NIFC is the Bicentennial Blue Pack Uncirculated issue at approximately 4,000,000 pieces and is the final Blue Pack date in the Eisenhower silver program. The Mint distributed the issue through the three-piece Bicentennial Silver Uncirculated Set, which paired the dollar with matching 40 percent silver Bicentennial quarter and half dollar designs by Jack L. Ahr and Seth G. Huntington. Dennis R. Williams's Liberty Bell over moon reverse appears on every 1976-S Silver NIFC example, dual-dated 1776-1976 like every Bicentennial Eisenhower across all four production strike types. The thinner Type 2 lettering style is the standard for the entire 1976-S Silver NIFC run; no Type 1 lettering variety exists on the silver Uncirculated issue.

Strike quality on the 1976-S Silver NIFC is consistently sharp, with Blue Pack production maintaining the same die-pair standards that defined the 1971-1974 Blue Pack issues. Most surviving examples grade MS65 to MS67 from sealed Bicentennial Silver Uncirculated Sets, with PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, and NGC populations cluster at MS66 and MS67. The 24.59-gram 40 percent silver planchet picks up contact and toning marks under any handling outside the sealed set, so cracked-out raw examples often show milky toning or minor marks. No major varieties are documented for the 1976-S Silver NIFC.

This is a regular issue and the most-collected Blue Pack date because the Bicentennial Silver Uncirculated Set distribution put the issue in nearly every collector household that bought a 1976 silver set. Pricing has held flat at modest levels above silver spot, with the Bicentennial reverse and the matching three-coin set both contributing to the issue's broad collector appeal. The 1976-S Silver NIFC pairs naturally with the 1976-S Silver Proof as the matched Bicentennial silver collector pair, both struck on the same 24.59-gram 40 percent silver planchet. For the Bicentennial Silver Uncirculated Set distribution history, see the Eisenhower Dollar series history.
