1837 Seated Proof

The 1837 Seated Liberty half dime proof is the first proof of the series and the first No Stars proof. Proof production at the Philadelphia Mint in 1837 was minimal and informal, with coins struck individually or in very small batches for presentation or collector sales. Fewer than two dozen 1837 proof half dimes are estimated to survive, making the coin one of the rarest Seated Liberty proofs in any format.

As a first-year proof of a thirty-six-year design, the 1837 carries collector weight beyond its already-small mintage. Surviving examples are typically in high grades, with the mirror surfaces of the proof format preserved through careful handling over the decades.
