The 2024-P Kennedy half pulled back from the 2023 surge at Philadelphia, with mintage settling to 15,700,000 pieces from the 30,200,000 of 2023-P. The roughly half-the-2023 figure represents the Mint's recalibration after the large 2023 push, a more typical output level for the resumption era that still runs comfortably above the 2021 and 2022 first-year and second-year runs. The pattern across the resumption stretch through 2024 frames the denomination as restored to general distribution at meaningful volumes without returning to the 1980s and 1990s twenty-million-plus annual norms. Composition stayed the standard post-1971 clad recipe of 75% copper, 25% nickel outer layers bonded to a pure copper core, 11.34 g at 30.6 mm with a reeded edge. The P mintmark sits above the date; Gilroy Roberts's GR initials are at the truncation of Kennedy's neck and Frank Gasparro's heraldic eagle reverse, with FG to the right of the tail feathers, carries the original 1964 design unchanged.

Strike quality on the 2024-P holds the modern Mint's general standard for cupronickel halves at the reduced volume. Hair detail above the ear and the eagle's chest feathers come up sharp on the typical example, and weak strikes are uncommon. The familiar contact-mark cluster on the high cheek and jaw appears at modest levels because the coin moves through standard bag-and-sorter handling on the way to banks, comparable to 2021-P and 2022-P at similar mintage levels rather than the heavier-handling 2023-P. Authentication concerns at this date are limited to mintmark identification (P or D placement above the date) and to separating original bank-channel coins from mint-set extractions; mint-set-sourced material recovers proportional weight in the 2024-P supply because of the smaller bank-channel run relative to 2023. Counterfeit pressure on modern cupronickel halves remains effectively zero because the bullion value sits at face.

For year-set and Philadelphia-set collectors the 2024-P is a routine resumption-era placeholder, the fourth Philadelphia issue of the post-2021 stretch and the first to settle into the middle range that may become the resumption-era baseline. Coins turn up in bank-rolled customer pickups across the country at productivity below the 2023 peak but well above 2021 and 2022. Raw examples sell at or just above face value with small premiums at MS66 and MS67, and PCGS and NGC populations cluster at MS66 and MS67 from both mint-set extractions and original-roll submissions. Bank-roll hunting is viable at this date though noticeably less productive than at the 2023 pair; the 2024-P sits as the easier Philadelphia date of the 2024-2025 stretch where Denver outproduced Philadelphia by a clear margin.
