Philadelphia struck 18,720 proof Jefferson nickels in 1941, the highest proof mintage of the pre-war period and reflecting strong collector demand for proof sets. The coin is common by proof standards and readily available in PR64 through PR66 grades. Strike quality is typically sharp, with the mature Jefferson design producing crisp detail on mirror fields with frosted devices.
The 1941 proof was the final year of pre-war proof production for the Jefferson nickel. Proof set production would continue through 1942, but then cease entirely until 1950 because of wartime priorities and postwar economic recovery. The 1941 therefore represents the last of a continuous proof sub-series before the 1942-1950 gap, and collectors building complete proof sets acquire it as an essential transition piece.
Cameo contrast is available on 1941 proofs at modest premiums over non-Cameo examples, and Deep Cameo pieces command proportionally higher prices. Original proof set packaging is occasionally available and commands premiums over loose individual coins. For collectors interested in provenance, original-packaging sets provide the most authentic preservation of the issue as it was distributed.
