About this coinHistory

Philadelphia struck 1,350,000,000 Jefferson nickels in 2018, an increase from 2017 and continuing the post-recession high-volume production pattern. The coin is abundant in all grades and readily available in Mint State at minimal premiums. Strike quality follows the typical pattern for late-2010s Jefferson nickel production.

The 2018 production year fell during the Trump administration and continued the unchanged Franki-Weaver-Schlag composite design that had been introduced in 2006. By 2018 the design had been in continuous production for twelve years, longer than several earlier Jefferson nickel design configurations including the original Schlag obverse with the 1939-1945 reverses.

For collectors building complete Jefferson nickel sets, the 2018-P is a routine modern acquisition. Full Steps examples are achievable through specialist channels, and standard Mint State grades are abundant through Mint Sets and rolls.
