The 1885 Indian Head cent had a mintage of approximately 11.8 million coins, a decline from the higher-mintage early 1880s dates. The lower output makes the 1885 slightly scarcer than its neighbors and gives it a modest premium in higher grades. The coin is not a semi-key by the standards of the 1866-1878 dates but is noticeably less common than the 1880, 1881, 1882, and 1883 issues.
