About this coinHistory

The 1911 Lincoln cent from Philadelphia was struck in a mintage of over 101 million coins. The design was now in its third year, thoroughly established as the face of the American cent. The coin is common in all grades. William Howard Taft was president, the Triangle Shirtwaist fire killed 146 garment workers in New York, and Standard Oil was broken up by the Supreme Court. The cent circulated through an era of Progressive reform and industrial tragedy.
