The 1911-S Lincoln cent was struck at San Francisco in a mintage of approximately 4.0 million coins, the lowest S-mint output since the 1909-S. The low mintage makes the 1911-S a semi-key date that carries a meaningful premium over common Lincoln cents. Most surviving examples are in lower circulated grades. Finding a problem-free Very Fine or better takes searching. The 1911-S is one of several early S-mint dates that make the pre-1920 San Francisco Lincoln cents a collecting challenge.
