About this coinHistory

The 1918-D Lincoln cent was produced in approximately 47.8 million coins at Denver. Victor David Brenner's initials were restored to the Lincoln cent in 1918, appearing in tiny form on the truncation of Lincoln's shoulder where they would remain permanently. The initials had been absent since August 1909, when public criticism prompted their removal from the reverse. The 1918 is the first year the V.D.B. returned, though in a location so small that most people never notice.
