The 1950 proof Lincoln cent marks the resumption of proof production after the eight-year wartime suspension (1943-1949). Approximately 51,386 proofs were struck, a massive increase over the pre-war proof numbers. The collector market had grown enormously during the 1940s, and the Mint responded with expanded proof output. The 1950 proof inaugurated the modern era of proof Lincoln cent collecting.
