About this coinHistory

The 1990-S Proof cent was produced in a quantity of approximately 3.3 million pieces. Most of these are entirely normal coins, carrying the "S" mintmark as expected. The fame of the 1990 proof cent, however, rests almost entirely with the No Mintmark error variety, which has overshadowed the regular issue in collector attention.

Every 1990-S Proof set should be examined for the missing mintmark, but the vast majority will contain the standard coin with the "S" present. The regular 1990-S Proof features deep mirror fields and frosted devices. Cameo and deep cameo examples are common. It is affordably priced and widely available.
