About this coinHistory

The 2024-S Proof Lincoln Shield cent was struck at the San Francisco Mint with an estimated mintage of approximately 800,000 pieces. Proof set production continued at the sub-million levels that had become the norm in the early 2020s. The proof cent features the standard mirror-and-frost cameo contrast, struck using the careful multi-step process that distinguishes proof coins from all other striking formats.

The 2024-S proof is part of the unbroken series of San Francisco proof cents that dates back to 1968. Over more than fifty years, San Francisco has produced proof versions of every Lincoln cent design: the Memorial reverse through 2008, the four bicentennial designs of 2009, and the Shield reverse from 2010 onward. The 2024 proof continues that tradition with the craftsmanship collectors have come to expect.
