About this coinHistory

The 2025-S Proof Lincoln Shield cent was struck at the San Francisco Mint with an estimated production of approximately 800,000 pieces. The proof cent continues the sub-million mintage trend that began in 2021. The mirror-and-frost cameo finish renders the Shield reverse with exceptional detail, from the fine lines of the thirteen stripes to the lettering on the "ONE CENT" scroll.

The 2025-S proof is part of the continuous series of San Francisco proof Lincoln cents dating to 1968. Each year's proof cent documents the state of the denomination and serves as a high-quality reference specimen for the design. The 2025 proof set was released in anticipation of the 2026 Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of American independence, which would bring special commemorative designs to several denominations including the cent.
