About this coinHistory

Chickasaw closed the 2011 ATB year as design ten, the program's first issue honoring a National Recreation Area rather than a National Park, National Forest, or National Military Park. Donna Weaver's reverse pictures the Lincoln Bridge, a 1909 stone arch span at Platt Historic District inside the recreation area, framed by trees. Philadelphia struck 73,800,000 pieces, an outlier figure that more than doubled every other 2011 P-mint total and represents the highest Philadelphia mintage of the entire 2010-2011 ATB period. The production surge appears tied to a late-2011 Federal Reserve order spike for new quarter inventory in southern and western districts, which Philadelphia absorbed because Denver had already wound down 2011 production.

Strike quality on the issue concentrates at the bridge's stone-arch texture and the surrounding tree detail. The high mintage means dies cycled hard during the production run, and late-die-state pieces appear with notable frequency in circulated and lower Mint State grades. Weaver's composition is quieter than most ATB designs, favoring a single architectural feature over the layered nature scenes typical of the program, and the strike-grading consequence is concentrated at one spot: the stone-arch keystone and the arch curvature beside it. The clad composition is standard (75% copper-nickel cladding over a pure copper core, 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm). PCGS (the Professional Coin Grading Service) and NGC handle the slabbed market.

The 2011-P Chickasaw is a Regular common date with the unusual distinction of being meaningfully more available than its 2011 P-mint siblings, simply because Philadelphia produced more than twice as many pieces. The high mintage has held the issue's MS67 price floor below other 2011 designs and made raw cherry-picking through bank rolls genuinely productive. Population reports show heavier MS66 and MS67 concentrations than the other 2011 P-mint issues, reflecting the larger production base.
