About this coinHistory

Glacier National Park's reverse features a mountain goat perched on rocky terrain with the park's dramatic mountain scenery behind it. Glacier spans over a million acres along the Continental Divide in northwestern Montana, containing more than 700 miles of hiking trails and some of the most pristine alpine wilderness in the lower 48 states. The park's namesake glaciers have been receding for decades; researchers have documented that the park held 150 glaciers in 1850 and only 25 active glaciers remain. Barbara Fox designed the reverse and Jim Licaretz sculpted it. Philadelphia struck 30,400,000 coins. The Glacier design also appeared on the 5 oz .999 fine silver bullion coin produced at Philadelphia.
