Frank Morris's reverse, sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, depicts a long-rifle-carrying frontiersman gazing out from the Kentucky side of the Appalachian pass that funneled settlers westward through the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The site preserves the natural pass Daniel Boone widened into the Wilderness Road in 1775, and the design's lone-figure-against-landscape composition follows the program's pattern of choosing human-scale moments over panoramic views.

Strike quality on the issue tracks the broader Philadelphia 2016 production: dies were generally well maintained, but the fine reverse detail on the frontiersman's rifle stock and the layered ridgeline behind him is where graders separate gem from near-gem. Look for soft strike on the rifle's metalwork and any flattening in the figure's coat folds, which signals worn dies. The clad composition (75% copper-nickel over a pure copper core, 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm) matches every quarter struck since 1965, so counterfeit risk is functionally nil and the high-grade market runs through PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) and NGC slabs rather than raw-coin authentication.
