About this coinHistory

The Denver strike of the Nina Otero-Warren quarter carries a mintage of 219,200,000 pieces, the lowest 2022-D figure across the American Women series and one of the smaller circulating mintages in the broader program. Otero-Warren's place in this lineup recognizes her work building the New Mexico women's suffrage coalition during the 1910s, her chairmanship of the state ratification effort for the Nineteenth Amendment, and her 1922 Republican congressional bid that broke ground for Hispanic women in national politics. Her years as Santa Fe County superintendent of schools also shaped bilingual education policy in northern New Mexico communities long before such approaches gained federal recognition.

The reverse composition shows Otero-Warren in profile, paired with three Yucca flowers, the New Mexico state flower, and the inscription VOTO PARA LA MUJER, translating to Vote for Women. The design came from Artistic Infusion Program artist Chris Costello, with Craig A. Campbell handling the sculpt at the United States Mint. Denver coinage carries the D mintmark to the right of Washington's queue on the Laura Gardin Fraser 1932 obverse. Clad construction holds to the long-standing quarter recipe at 91.67 percent copper and 8.33 percent nickel cladding over a pure copper core, with a weight of 5.67 grams, diameter of 24.3 millimeters, and reeded edge.

Denver strikes from 2022 typically show heavier die pressure than equivalent Philadelphia output, producing sharper Yucca-petal articulation but more variability in late die-state coins, an observation collectors confirm by comparing graded examples side by side. Examples graded MS66 and finer through Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) trade at premiums proportional to the gap between population at MS66 and MS67, which collectors should consult before paying registry-grade prices. Original bank-wrapped Denver rolls from 2022 remain accessible through specialty dealers and major auction houses serving the modern quarter collector market.
