About this coinHistory

The 2026-S Emerging Liberty .999 fine silver proof dime is the silver companion to the clad proof in the Semiquincentennial program and the only silver-proof dime struck without the Roosevelt design across the entire 1992-onward modern silver-proof era. The Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 (Public Law 116-330) replaced the Sinnock portrait and torch-and-branches reverse on the dime for the 250th anniversary year only. The obverse, designed by Esao Andrews of the Artistic Infusion Program and engraved by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Craig A. Campbell, carries a Liberty figure in a stars-and-stripes liberty cap with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the dual-date 1776~2026. The reverse, designed and sculpted by Eric David Custer, shows an eagle in flight carrying arrows above the motto LIBERTY OVER TYRANNY. The composition is .999 fine silver, the standard for the modern silver-proof program since the 2019 transition from the prior 90 percent silver alloy, with weight specified at roughly 2.50 grams. The S mintmark sits sharp above the date. Final mintage will be confirmed once the U.S. Mint closes audited sales reporting for the calendar year.

Authentication on a 2026-S Emerging Liberty silver proof rests on three diagnostics in combination. First, the commemorative design: any 2026 silver-proof dime that shows the Sinnock Roosevelt portrait is a counterfeit, because the Roosevelt design was not struck on dimes in 2026. The stars-and-stripes liberty cap on the obverse and the eagle-and-arrows LIBERTY OVER TYRANNY reverse must both be present. Second, composition and weight: surface tone must display the bright pure-white silver characteristic of .999 fine silver with no warm copper undertone, and the edge view shows no copper-core stripe. Weight on a calibrated scale must hit the silver-proof specification near 2.50 grams, separating immediately from the 2.268-gram clad-proof companion. Third, the standard proof finish diagnostics apply: mirrored fields, squared rims, and frosted devices on Cameo and Deep Cameo examples. PCGS and NGC encapsulation labels will designate the issue with the commemorative-design notation.

The 2026-S Emerging Liberty silver proof carries combined structural significance as the only silver-proof dime ever struck with a one-year commemorative design and as the silver bookend to a 1992-2025 silver-proof Roosevelt run that carried the Sinnock reverse without variation through its entire three-decade history. PR69 DCAM will be available at the standard silver-proof price level pending sales results, and PR70 DCAM forms the meaningful condition-rarity step where PCGS and NGC populations thin to registry-relevant levels. The issue is required for any complete Semiquincentennial collection across both clad-proof and silver-proof formats and for any commemorative-design dime set covering the entire 2026 four-coin output. Collector demand concentrates on PR70 DCAM examples and on original 2026 silver-proof-set packaging. For the Semiquincentennial program and the design history, see the Roosevelt Dime series history.
