Philadelphia struck 1,120,000 examples of the 2024 Missouri American Innovation Dollar, matching its Denver counterpart almost piece for piece across the year's lead Missouri release. The U.S. Mint released the Missouri rolls and bags on July 18, 2024, fourth in the 2024 schedule after Illinois, Alabama, and Maine. The reverse honors George Washington Carver, the agricultural scientist born enslaved in southwestern Missouri around 1864, and depicts him gently smiling as he examines a sample of his work in his Tuskegee laboratory; peanut leaves, blossoms, and pods weave between scientific equipment in the background. U.S. Mint Medallic Artist Eric David Custer designed and sculpted the reverse. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, MISSOURI, and GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER. The Commission of Fine Arts recommended the design on February 16, 2023 after considering twelve different candidates, eventually settling on the laboratory portrait over alternatives that had been proposed in mid-2022.
The Philadelphia issue ships the same way as the Denver counterpart: 25-coin rolls and 100-coin bags through the U.S. Mint catalog, no general circulation release, and effectively the entire surviving population in collector hands at MS65 and above. Strike on the Philadelphia issue follows the standard manganese-brass pattern: a satin obverse Statue of Liberty (Justin Kunz design, Phebe Hemphill sculpt) and a reasonably crisp reverse, with the most variable detail being the small peanut blossoms and the texture of the laboratory glassware. Examples that show clean separation between Carver's coat and the dense foliage behind him are worth holding out for; the difference reads even in standard certified MS66 examples.
For set builders, the 2024-P sits in the upper mintage band of the program, a noticeable step above the gradual 2022-2023 taper and a reflection of refreshed collector demand around the Carver design. The badge remains Regular: the issue is widely available in original Mint rolls and the 1.12 million mintage is more than sufficient to supply demand without registry-tier scarcity pressure outside MS68 and above.
