The inversion suits the composition because Carver's coat and the laboratory equipment read with a sculptural depth in mirror polish that the standard proof renders only as outline against gloss.

Reverse proof production requires specially prepared dies polished on the relief surfaces and frosted across the field, the opposite of standard proof die preparation, which consumes more die life per coin.
