The 1840 No Drapery proof half dime is the terminal proof of the No Drapery subtype. Later in 1840, the drapery modification was added, creating the Stars Obverse With Drapery subtype that would continue for nearly two decades. The 1840 No Drapery proof is rare and represents the final year of proof production under the original Gobrecht design before the drapery addition.
