Philadelphia struck 1,564,000 half dimes in 1845, a robust output that made the date one of the more common in the Stars Obverse With Drapery subtype. Texas was formally annexed to the United States in December 1845, setting in motion the diplomatic confrontation with Mexico that would lead to war the following year.
