About this coinHistory

The 2010-P Satin Finish Jefferson nickel is the final-year piece of the Mint's six-year Satin Finish Uncirculated Set program (2005-2010). Beginning in 2011, the Mint discontinued the Satin Finish format and returned Uncirculated Set coins to standard burnished finishes that more closely resembled regular business strikes. The 2010-P Satin Finish therefore carries a small premium of historical significance as the terminal entry in the Satin Finish sub-series.

Production was limited to what was needed for Mint Set assembly. The 2010 Mint Set contained the year's circulating denominations including all five new America the Beautiful Quarters, making it one of the more substantial Mint Sets of recent years. The Satin Finish Jefferson nickels in the set were paired (Philadelphia and Denver) with both required for complete year representation.

Collectors building comprehensive modern Jefferson nickel collections acquire the 2010-P Satin Finish as the closing piece of the 2005-2010 Satin Finish sub-series. Specialists who have assembled the complete twelve-coin Satin Finish run treat the 2010 issues as the terminal pieces that complete the special finish program.
