About this coinHistory

The 1906 Indian Head cent was struck in approximately 96.0 million coins, an enormous output that reflected the scale of the early-twentieth-century American economy. The San Francisco earthquake and fire of April 1906 devastated the city and disrupted the San Francisco Mint's operations, though it did not affect Indian Head cent production, which was exclusively a Philadelphia operation. The 1906 is a common date.
