About this coinHistory

The 1960-D Small Date shares Denver's massive 1960 mintage of over 1.58 billion but was produced in smaller quantities than the Large Date counterpart. The Small Date variety is identified by its thinner, shorter numerals in the date, with the "1" in particular appearing less robust than on the Large Date version.

Collectors actively searched rolls of Denver cents for this variety during the height of the 1960 date craze. While the 1960-D Small Date is not as celebrated as the Philadelphia Small Date, it remains a recognized variety that completists include in their sets. It can be found in circulated grades without great difficulty, though mint-state examples carry a modest premium over the Large Date.
