About this coinHistory

The 1969 Philadelphia cent rolled off the presses in a year defined by one singular achievement: on July 20, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. The Apollo 11 mission fulfilled President Kennedy's 1961 challenge and captivated a global audience estimated at 600 million viewers. The Philadelphia Mint struck over 1.13 billion cents that year.

The Woodstock music festival took place in August. The first message was sent over ARPANET, the precursor to the internet, in October. The 1969 Philadelphia cent carries no mintmark and circulated widely. It is common in all grades and easy to find for any collector building a Memorial cent set.
