About this coinHistory

Denver produced over 4 billion Lincoln cents in 1969, one of the largest single-year outputs from any mint in the series. The "D" mintmark identifies these coins. They flooded into commerce during the year humanity first set foot on the moon.

The 1969-D is extraordinarily common. Even in mint state, examples are plentiful because so many were saved in rolls and bags. Collectors treat it as a routine acquisition, notable only for the historic year stamped on its face. The coin itself is identical in design and composition to every other Memorial cent of the period: 95% copper, 5% zinc, weighing 3.11 grams.
