About this coinHistory

Denver produced over 4.19 billion cents in 1977 with the "D" mintmark. The New York City blackout in July 1977 resulted in widespread looting and arson, and the Son of Sam serial killer terrorized the city for much of the year. The country was still searching for its footing after the upheavals of the previous decade.

The 1977-D is common in all grades. Billions were struck, and large numbers survive in mint state from rolls and bags saved by collectors and speculators. The coin presents no challenge to locate.
