About this coinHistory

Denver produced over 5.14 billion cents in 1980, bearing the "D" mintmark. The United States boycotted the Moscow Olympics in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Mount St. Helens erupted in Washington State in May, killing 57 people. Ronald Reagan defeated President Carter in the November election, promising economic renewal.

The 1980-D is extremely common and widely available. Its enormous mintage ensures that collectors face no challenge in obtaining examples in any condition. Mint-state rolls remain plentiful decades later.
