About this coinHistory

Denver produced over 6.46 billion cents in 1983, bearing the "D" mintmark. All were struck on the new copper-plated zinc planchets, as the composition change was now permanent. The coins entered circulation during the early months of an economic recovery that would accelerate through the rest of the decade.

The 1983-D is extremely common. It is available in all grades at nominal cost and presents no challenge for collectors. Mint-state rolls are plentiful from this high-production year.
