About this coinHistory

The Philadelphia Mint produced over 8.15 billion cents in 1984, setting a new record for single-facility output. The economy was booming. President Reagan won reelection in a landslide in November, carrying 49 states against Walter Mondale. The Summer Olympics in Los Angeles were a triumph for American athletes after the Soviet bloc boycotted the games.

The 1984 Philadelphia cent carries no mintmark and is one of the highest-mintage coins in the series. It circulated in vast quantities during a period of renewed economic confidence. Collectors regard it as one of the most common dates available.
