About this coinHistory

The 2005-S Proof was produced at San Francisco with a mintage of approximately 3.34 million pieces. The proof set that year included the final statehood quarters for 2005 (California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia). The proof cent itself continued the tradition of mirror fields and frosted devices.

Hurricane Katrina was the defining event of 2005, but the Mint's proof program operated independently of such catastrophes. The 2005-S Proof cent is affordable and common among proof collectors. Deep cameo examples are standard.
