The 2008 Satin Finish cent from Philadelphia was included in the annual Uncirculated Mint Set, one of the final satin-finish issues to carry the Memorial reverse. Approximately 745,000 sets were sold. The coin was struck on a burnished planchet with specially prepared dies, producing the characteristic soft luster of the satin finish format.
The 2008 Satin Finish carries no mintmark. It represents the intersection of two ending programs: the satin-finish uncirculated sets (which continued through 2010 but with new reverse designs) and the Memorial reverse (which ended after 2008). Collectors of both the satin-finish subset and the Memorial reverse series find this coin a natural endpoint. It is available from dealers at modest prices.
