About this coinHistory

The 2010-D Yosemite came in at 35,400,000 pieces, matching the Denver totals posted for the Hot Springs and Yellowstone launches earlier in the year and running 600,000 ahead of Philadelphia's 34,800,000. The Denver mint's 2010 ATB output stayed remarkably stable across all five designs, hovering between 33.6 million and 35.4 million pieces, which suggests the production schedule was set early and the mint hit its targets without major adjustment. Joseph Menna's El Capitan reverse remained unchanged across both mints; the only distinguishing element is the small D mintmark on the obverse, just to the right of the Washington portrait.

Strike characteristics on the Denver issue tend to show slightly better preservation of relief on the El Capitan rock face, which is the design's defining feature for high-grade evaluation. The granite-shadow detail separates MS66 from MS67 in grader judgment, and Denver dies during the 2010 run appear to have held that detail longer than Philadelphia dies. The clad composition is the standard 75% copper-nickel over pure copper sandwich (5.67 grams, 24.26 mm), with authentication concerns minimal for modern clads. Counterfeit risk is essentially nil for circulation-strike examples; the high-grade slabbed market runs through PCGS and NGC (the two leading third-party grading services) for verified MS67 and MS68 specimens.

The 2010-D Yosemite is a Regular common date for circulated and standard Mint State purposes, with premium tiers concentrated in MS67 and a steeper jump at MS68 where the population thins. Bank-roll hunting still produces raw MS65 examples occasionally, though the yield has dropped substantially since the design's release year. Set builders chasing a complete slabbed ATB collection in MS67 often pick up the 2010 P-and-D pairs together since both are well-supplied at that grade and priced accordingly. For the broader story of the ATB program, the 2008 authorizing legislation, and the series' design arc, see the Washington ATB series history.
