About this coinHistory

The 2013-S Perry's Memorial silver proof was struck at San Francisco at 467,961 pieces for inclusion in the year's Silver Proof Set, the figure matching U.S. Mint sales for that product. The coin is the second of five 2013 designs and continues the year's stable Silver Proof Set demand at the high-460-thousand band, a level the program would hold through 2014 and 2015 before drifting lower in 2016 and 2017. Don Everhart's reverse depicts Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry standing in front of the 352-foot Doric column that marks his September 1813 victory over the British Lake Erie squadron at South Bass Island, Ohio. The 90% silver composition (.1808 troy ounces of pure silver inside a 6.25-gram quarter at 24.26 millimeters with a reeded edge) is the standard pre-2019 ATB silver-proof alloy.

Authentication on the coin anchors on weight and edge appearance. A calibrated scale resolves 6.25 grams against the 5.67-gram clad proof's reading comfortably, and the edge reads as a uniform silver-gray reeded band with no copper-core sandwich visible. PCGS and NGC apply a "Silver" attribution to the slab label on top of the numeric grade and Cameo or Deep Cameo contrast designation. Cameo (CAM) is moderate device-versus-field contrast; Deep Cameo (DCAM) is the higher-contrast tier and the default outcome on the issue rather than an upgrade. Grade distribution clusters at PR69-DCAM and PR70-DCAM with top-tier population counts in the thousands across both services. The design-specific diagnostic is the bronze frieze detail at the column base and the texture of Perry's uniform coat, both fine-relief elements that flatten under weak press pressure.

The coin trades in the modern-silver-proof band, which means the price floor follows silver spot and the ceiling reflects modest set-completion premium. Raw certified PR69-DCAM examples move for a small step over melt plus slab cost, and PR70-DCAM examples in NGC or PCGS holders carry a modest tier above that. The 467,961 silver-proof print run is roughly 38 percent of the 1.23 million 2013 clad-proof figure for the same design, which gives buyers a structural scarcity edge against the clad version but does not separate the coin from its four 2013 silver-proof sister designs in pricing. Ohio collectors and War of 1812 specialists provide modest topical demand.
