Generic 1842 halves trade as common type material, but a properly attributed Small Date with Reverse of 1842 carries a modest premium and is genuinely harder to locate in upper circulated grades when buyers insist on certified attribution. Holdered examples from PCGS or NGC are the most efficient route; raw coins reward careful comparison of date width and reverse letter size before purchase.
