About this coinHistory

Denver produced over 4.22 billion cents in 1976, bearing the "D" mintmark. Like its Philadelphia counterpart, the 1976-D saw no design modification for the Bicentennial. The special commemorative treatment was reserved for the quarter, half dollar, and dollar, which received dual-dated "1776-1976" reverses with patriotic designs.

Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford in the November presidential election, ending the brief Ford administration. The 1976-D is common in all grades and poses no acquisition challenge for collectors. It circulated heavily during a year of national celebration.
