About this coinHistory

Denver's 2018 Voyageurs issue came in at 151,200,000 pieces, the higher of the two business-strike mintages for the design and a meaningful step up from Philadelphia's 128,400,000. The widening Denver share of Federal Reserve orders is a consistent pattern across the late ATB run, and 2018 Voyageurs sits squarely inside it. Patricia Lucas-Morris's reverse shows a rock formation along the lake's edge with a rope swing and figures enjoying the water below; the design is unusual within the program for centering human recreation as the focal element rather than landscape or wildlife alone. The D mintmark sits in the standard ATB position on the obverse, just right of Washington's queue, in raised relief small enough that grading services occasionally catch mintmark-attribution issues on raw coins offered as Philadelphia.

Production characteristics at Denver favor the small relief features that distinguish the design. D-mint examples typically show a fuller rope line and crisper figure detail than the Philadelphia counterpart, while the rock-face texture renders comparably between the two mints. Late-die-state coins lose the rope first, which is the easiest cherry-picking signal on raw rolls: an unbroken rope from branch to swing is the MS66-or-better tell. PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, and NGC handle the slabbed market for the issue, and registry buyers building the clad set in MS67 pay a moderate but consistent premium over MS66. The clad composition is standard at 75% copper-nickel over a pure copper core, 5.67 grams.

The 2018-D Voyageurs is a Regular classification entry, abundant raw and through MS66 and transitioning to condition rarity behavior at MS68. Population reports show it slightly more available than the Philadelphia counterpart at MS67, a pattern that recurs across the late series and tracks the larger Denver production. Registry collectors building the 56-coin run treat P and D 2018 Voyageurs as priced together, with neither commanding a meaningful premium over the other. For the broader story of the ATB program and the series' design arc, see the Washington ATB series history.
