2020-W Weir Farm, V75 Privy

The 2020-W Weir Farm quarter carries the second year of West Point circulation production, distinguished from the 2019-W issues by a V75 privy mark commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. The privy reads V75 and appears as a small symbol on the obverse to the right of Washington's head; the W mintmark sits in its usual position above Washington. Justin Kunz designed the reverse, which shows an artist working at an easel in front of the historic farmhouse at Weir Farm National Historic Site in Connecticut, the only U.S. national park unit dedicated specifically to American painting. Both the W mintmark and the V75 privy must be present on a genuine 2020-W coin, and the absence of either would be a red flag.

The Mint released approximately two million Weir Farm W-mint V75 Privy pieces into Federal Reserve coin channels in 2020, matching the distribution model used for the 2019-W series. No advance announcement preceded the release, and collectors discovered the V75 privy through pocket-change examination and roll searching in spring and summer 2020. The two-diagnostic authentication, namely the W above Washington and the V75 to the right of Washington, makes counterfeiting impractical for a coin trading at modern semi-key premiums. PCGS and NGC populations are heavy across MS65 to MS67, with thinner counts at MS68. Raw circulation-pulled coins in flips remain a reasonable entry path for set-builders willing to skip third-party grading.

The coin carries Semi-Key status in the ATB series, with the same fundamental scarcity dynamic as the 2019-W issues, namely collector withdrawal rather than low production volume. The Victory 75 anniversary tie-in has given the 2020-W set a thematic distinctiveness that has supported steady premium retention since 2020. Pricing is stable in mid-Mint State and firms gradually in MS67 and higher, where slab counts are still moderate. A certified example completes the 2020-W subset for a date-set builder; raw uncirculated coins handle the budget end.
